2013 Arkansas SOPHE Conference Spring Into Wellness
Close to one hundred attendees participated in the Arkansas SOPHE Conference, “Spring into Wellness.” This annual conference was held on March 27, 2013 at the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. This marks the 12th year for the conference that is attended by health educators, nurses, students, and other health disciplines. Continuing education opportunities were available for CHES/MCHES, nurses and prevention specialists. This year’s theme was, “Advocating for Health Equity: Your Right, Your Responsibility.” The keynote speaker was SOPHE’s very own Jerrica Mathis, Director of Health Policy. Ms. Mathis presented the opening address and an afternoon session on advocacy. As well as hearing from Ms. Mathis, conference participants also enjoyed presentations about human trafficking, abusive head trauma in infants, women’s health issues, teen sexting, lead based paint, and telehealth. Two student sessions were conducted to give students the opportunity to hear about resume development, interviewing skills, and job search tips. A panel of health educators from various professions and backgrounds was formed to give students the opportunity to ask questions and network as they begin their careers.
