Fordyce Food Drive

With the help from Arkansas SOPHE and the Dallas County Health Unit, DASH, C.A.D.C., Fordyce High School Cheerleaders, Sarah Childress, Fordyce Jr. High Pride, and Rotary we were able to provide the trimmings for 30 families a Christmas meal and enough non-perishable food to help feed a family for several meals. The $300.00 from SOPHE was used to buy flour, corn meal, vegetable oil, baking soda, salt and pepper. Rotary purchased 30 $8.00 vouchers to the local grocery story to buy perishable food items like milk or eggs with an expiration date on December 31, 2009. They each received a ham or turkey from their Union, though the plant has closed for good. The youth collected a large supply of canned and boxed foods and learned that it is better to give than receive. We were blessed on December 21, 2009 by the appreciation of the unemployed workers who came in to pick up their baskets from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Zella Gullett, Donna Ferguson, and Amy Wesley collected their vouchers that were numbered and checked their names off the list. They presented each family with either 1 box or 2 bags of food, explained the expiration date for the food voucher from Rotary and Wished a Merry Christmas. Most of the families came in or called to pick up at a different time. Thank you so much for your help and support. -Donna Ferguson, AR SOPHE Member (below)
