UAMS Headstart Project
For the fourth year, AR SOPHE members in Central Arkansas participated in the “Stuff the Stockings” Head Start Holiday project. This year, AR SOPHE partnered with the UAMS Clinical Programs Education Department (CPED) to sponsor the Metro Head Start Classroom in Little Rock. Thanks to the generous donations of SOPHE members and the UAMS CPED, each child received two gifts to open and a huge stocking filled to the brim with goodies. The kids and their teachers were so excited and appreciative. AR SOPHE members not only got to spend time playing with the kids as they opened their gifts but also got to enjoy a delicious snack with the kids. The kids had a surprise in store for AR SOPHE also. We were entertained with a medley of holiday songs sung by the class and presented with a poster size card with a group picture of the class along with their signatures.
Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. They are child-focused programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.
